Jakob Ingebrigtsen is likely to compete in the International Association of Athletics Federations’ (WA) new championship featuring only the best athletes in the world.
The first edition of the championship will be held in Budapest in 2026, with a prize pool of $10 million (105 million Norwegian kroner).
Each champion will receive a prize of 1.6 million kroner.
Almost 400 athletes in national team uniforms will participate in what WA calls "the ultimate championship," including world champions, Olympic champions, Diamond League winners, and top performers of the season.
The competition format involves straight semifinals and finals, creating immediate pressure on the athletes.
WA president Sebastian Coe stated that the aim is to make this compact championship the season finale, held every other year.
The inaugural event will take place from September 11 to 13, 2026.
