Piranha Bytes’ Jennifer Pankratz and Bjørn Pankratz, who have worked for the studio for nearly 20 years, have established a new game studio.
The duo have worked on games such as Elex and Gothic, with Bjørn taking on multiple roles including creative leader, game designer, sound designer, composer, and head of story, while Jennifer has worked as a story and game designer.
Piranha Bytes was acquired by Embracer Group in 2019, leading to rumors of the studio being shut down, a speculation the Pankratzes refused to address.
Instead, they announced on Youtube their plans to develop indie games independently, following their passion for creating fantastic games.
The Pankratzes confirmed they were in a difficult situation in January, but asked not to be counted out yet.
With the departure of the two Pankratzes, some wonder if this spells the end for Piranha Bytes.
